Overview
The film in brief.
The Nordlys Festival needed an opening title sequence as cold and precise as its program: forty-five seconds of ice forming, fracturing and blooming, scored by that year's commissioned overture.
We combined macro photography of real crystallization with motion graphics, so every shard on screen began as something physical. The sequence now opens all festival screenings and its anniversary reel.
The challenge
What we were up against.
Ice crystals form at their own pace and melt under studio lights. The sequence demanded repeatable, art-directed freezing — plus graphics that extend nature without betraying it.
The approach
How we solved it.
We built a cold-stage macro rig with interval control, grew dozens of crystal plates, then tracked the best formations into graphic compositions timed frame-by-frame to the overture.
